PSHE at Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls

Personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) plays an essential part in equipping students to live healthy, safe, productive, capable, responsible and balanced lives. It encourages them to reflect on and clarify their own values and attitudes and explore the issues they may encounter now and in the future. It also helps to build confidence, empathy, resilience and self-esteem, to identify and manage risk and make informed choices for their lives. PSHE education enables students to develop an understanding of themselves, to accommodate difference and change, to manage emotions and to communicate constructively in a variety of settings.

PSHE Education is planned in line with guidance from the PSHE Association and incorporates three Core Themes:  1) Health and Wellbeing  2) Relationships  3) Living in the Wider World.

In Years 7 and 8 students are taught PSHE in form groups in a fortnightly lesson. In Years 9, 10 and 11, students benefit from PSHE days which are delivered by teachers and specialist outside speakers. In the Sixth Form, students take part in a variety of sessions covering the three Core Themes above, but with an additional focus on their next steps when they leave school.
